Caption - Chinese Railways JS class 2-8-2 JS5417 is banked by QJ class 2-10-2 QJ283 on the steep climb out of Nancha in Northern China in late November 1988. The 12-coach train was typical of passenger services in this area which were always full and crowded. Standing in sub-zero temperatures waiting for trains was often not pleasant as the daytime temperatures often did not rise above minus 20 degrees Celsius.
