12106 - British Railways Miscellany
Caption - Leicester 'Midland' with EWS 66018 on a southbound freight passing HST 43058 in East Midlands Trains livery. I had arrived at Leicester with hopes of seeing something of interest but gave up after an hour. In the 'old days' there was a stream of freight behind $F 0-6-0s and 8F 2-8-0s amongst other loco types. Passenger traffic was mainly DMUs with Peaks on expresses. The last time I went for steam diesels were making serious inroads on freight haulage too. Happy memories with the north end of the station offering great views into the Leicester midland shed with its concrete roundhouse.
