Indonesian Railways steam locos at Madiun

Indonesia - 1980

Madiun was home to some interesting Indonesian Railways (PNKA) steam locos in 1980 including B50 class wood burning 2-4-0's that were approaching 100 years old. In addition there was also an oil-burning B53 class 4-4-0 and modern Krupp built 2-8-2's from 1951. The B50 2-4-0's were used on the lightly laid branch line to Slahung and normally two needed to be serviceable to maintain the timetable. On this visit, Sharp Stewart built B5006 and B5012 were in use, being 99 and 96 years old respectively having left Glasgow in 1881 and 1884.
