Steam special train at Bratislava

Slovakia - 2013

An unplanned encounter with steam at Bratislava main station (hlavna stanica) provided the wonderful sight of two locos working a short steam special and shuttles to the railway museum at Bratislava Vychod. The highlight was the magnificent CKD 4-8-2 498 104 in blue livery although the sight of Kriegslok 2-10-0 555 3008 was also memorable. Sadly I never managed to see the 498s in service in the 1970s. For many they were the pinnacle of steam power utilising the best practice from Germany and France. A visit to the Railway Museum also helped pass the day and will be featured in another gallery.
