Trains at Galle station and depot

Sri Lanka - 2012

Sri Lankan Railways operate just under a thousand miles of route laid to 5 foot 6 inch gauge (1676 mm). The capital city, Colombo, is a focus point for these lines which radiate across the island. One line heads along the coast to Galle with its rather nice terminus station. A short branch extends further south to Mathara with a shuttle service operating from Galle. There is a small loco depot at Galle adjacent to the station. Most of the traffic from Galle is on the line north to Colombo and beyond.
