Bratislava trains in sunshine

Slovakia - 2012

Slovakian Railways offer railway enthusiasts some wonderful train journeys and plenty of loco-hauled trains, some in the hands of quite elderly locos. The Slovakian capital Bratislava lies at the western end of the country and as one might expect has rail links to the rest of Slovakia together with Austria and the Czech Republic. The main station (hlavna stanica) sees plenty of passenger traffic and some freight and ranks in my opinion as one of the more interesting stations in Europe. In addition to Slovakian locos you will also see visitors from the Czech Republic and Austria together with some open-access operators of freight and one passenger service. In summer 2012 there were also some class V43 electric locos in use from Hungarian State Railways.
