Trams in the city of Basel

Switzerland - 2011

The relatively small city of Basel lies close to the French and German borders in northern Switzerland. The city is served by two tramway companies. The green trams of the Basel Transport Company (Basler Verkehrsbetriebe BVB) operate in the city whilst the yellow and red trams of Baselland Transport (BLT) serve two lines that extend from the city into the neighborouring small Canton of Baselland. For such a small the city the tramway network is surpisingly large with nearly 300 metre gauge trams employed on the newtwork. These images were taken mainly outside the main railway station in Basel from where many of the routes radiate into the subusrbs.
