Insular Lumber 3-foot 6-inch gauge 0-6-6-0 Mallet no.7
Caption - The Insular Lumber operation on the island of Negros in the Philippines closed in 1976 as the supply of hardwood became scarce to feed what was the largest sawmill in the world. The 3-foot 6-inch gauge railway was home to a fascinating collection of American Built locos including mainly Shays and a solitary Mallet. In this view from 1971, 0-6-6-0 Mallet no.7 (Baldwin 58239/1925) is seen preparing to leave the mill to collect lumber. Note the fully stacked tender for what must have been a very hungry firebox!
