Caption - Hungarian Railways (MAV) 2-8-0 411.118 at Budapest in May 1982. MAV purchased 510 of these USATC S160 locos which were surplus to requirements at the end of WW2. They started to arrive in Hungary in 1947 and 28 of the poorer locos were kept for spares. Unlike some countries, Hungary undertook a programme of modifications of which the higher cab and taller chimney are the most obvious. The class lasted until the early 1980's. 411.418 was retained as working museum loco. Some members of the class were purchased from Hungary for use on museum railways in the UK.
