This web site offers my personal view of railways across the globe. Content is drawn from a mixture of current and archive material that reflects my experiences of trains, locomotives and rail travel. I hope the site is also of interest to those people who are less passionate about railways and that the information contained in these pages is of value to them in their travels.

The images are drawn from my own collection of colour slides and digital images taken over a period of more than 40 years. The journeys cover the trips by rail that I have undertaken in the same period and probably reflect my personal tastes for travel. In addition there is also some coverage of light rail in a variety of locations across the world.

Over 2000 images have now been added with a mixture of present day and archive pictures. More from the Belgium, France, Germany and Switzerland are imminent. Looking forward to 2012 visits to Switzerland, Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Poland and Slovakia are already in my diary with trips to India, Hong Kong and China in the planning stages. Some new features from the UK are also being prepared. Also in the folder for adding shortly are more archive images from Italy, Portugal, Turkey, East Germany and South Africa.

Paris to Milan - 2011 - Travelling the TGV Artesia service through the Alps

Romanshorn to Luzern - 2011 - The Voralpen Express from Bodensee to Lake Luzern.

Munich to Zurich - 2011 - Double headed diesels and three countries in one morning.

Bolzano-Innsbruck via the Brenner - 2011 - This journey includes the famous Brenner Pass through the Austrian Alps.

News & Comment

UK Rail investment
The recent annoucement that the order for new trains for Crossrail has been further delayed underlines the lack of forward thinking about rail investment in the UK. True there is an argument that the order should be placed with a UK rail engineering company but that should have been thought about much more.

IEP given go-ahead
The recent news of the IEP train has been given the 'thumbs up' has led to some wild speculation about the actual details of the new trains. Perhaps the Government should have known better and provided greater detail of exactly what is proposed rather than some brief sketches of what is planned.

�8 billion for Rail
The Government's announcement of some decent investment in Britain's railways is long overdue. As with all such investments there is some good news and some bad. London as always gains the lion's share of the money although the northwest does see more electrification.
