EAR class 59 5917 "Mount Kitumbeine" near Voi
Caption - East Africa Railways (EAR) class 59 4-8-2+2-8-4 Garratt 5917 "Mount Kitumbein" near Voi on the mainline from Mombasa to Nairobi in 1969. Thirty-four of these magnificent metre gauge locos were built by Beyer-Peacock in 1955 and were the main source on power on this railway which climbed from sea level to over 5000 feet.
