Home Page

This web site offers my personal view of railways across the World. Content is drawn from a mixture of current and archive material that reflects my experiences of trains, locomotives and rail travel. I hope the site is also of interest to those people who are less passionate about railways and that the information contained in these pages is of value to them in their travels.

The images are drawn from my own collection of colour slides and digital images taken over a period of more than 40 years. The journeys cover the trips by rail that I have undertaken in the same period and probably reflect my personal tastes for travel. In addition there is also some coverage of light rail in a variety of locations across the world. Nearly 6000 pages of content have now been added, both present day and archive.

Recently added journeys include:-

Firenze to Bologna - 2015 - The most boring train ride in Italy? Despite connecting two beautiful and historic cities most of this journey is in tunnel.

Brasov to Bucuresti - 2014 - A journey through the mountains of Transylvania to the capital city of Romania. The journey can be very slow in parts but the spectacular scenery is a consolation.

Wernigerode to the Brocken - 2014 - This steam train excursion in the Harz Mountains takes you to the summit of the Brocken with its great views. A real nostalgic steam hauled journey.

Marrakech to Tangier - 2014 - A comfortable journey across Morocco from the deserts surrounding Marrakech to the green fields by the Mediterranean coast at Tangier.

More images from recent visits to Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Germany, Sri Lanka and Switzerland are imminent. The former Yugoslavia, Italy, Denmark, Sweden and Finland are also in preparation. Looking ahead return visits to Romania and Poland are already in my diary with India and Bangladesh, and Moldova in the planning stages. Some new features from the UK are also being prepared. A new section covering my collection of images from other photographers will shortly be added.

At the moment I'm scanning a large number of archive slides from visits made in 1978 and 1979. Some of these will be added soon featuring Pakistan, Brazil, Spain, India and South Africa.
