Caption - A pair of 25NC 4-8-4s drift into Orange River with a southbound freight. After coming to stand the engines might be split for watering and fire cleaning depending on tender lengths. The ritual fire cleaning at water stops was common practice across South Africa and was due to the high clinker content of the coal in use.
