The city of Zvolen lies near the northern end of the electrified mainline from Bratislava to Banska Bystrica. Being an outpost of electrification other lines in the area are diesel hauled relying mainly on "Goggles" for haulage. Motive power at Zvolen Osobna Stanica (the main station) is quite varied with a 'vintage' feel to operations with locos over 40 years old still in traffic.
