The surrounding area near Ostrava still has extensive coal and steel based industry producing some heavy freights many in the hands of Private Operator motive power. AWT is the dominant Private Operator with a very large fleet of diesels and a few older classes of electrics. Passenger traffic is quite frequent with a variety of traction from Pendolinos to some local trains hauled by class 750/754 'Goggles'. One other bonus is the proximity of the CD Cargo depot which lies opposite the station.
