Trains at Nanu Oya for Nuwara Eliya

Sri Lanka - 2012

Nanu Oya station is a twenty minute ride along a very rough road from the hill resort of Nuwara Eliya. Traffic is sparse and late running appears to be commonplace. Nanu Oya lies on the main line from Peradeniya Junction (near Kandy) to the terminus at Badulla. The line traverses some wonderful country threading its way through tea plantations for much of the journey with many bridges and tunnels. Traffic these days is mainly in the hands of Class S12 Chinese built DMUs which offer a surprising level of comfort compared with previous rolling stock. The station has seen no modernisation of facilities or signalling as these images attempt to show.
