Breclav lies on the main line from Prague to Vienna (Austria) and Bratislava (Slovakia) and lies close to the border with both countries. There is also a main line coming in from Ostrava plus a branchline to Znojmo. Traffic is quite frequent with some trains changing locos. Freight traffic to Slovakia and Austria is also quite heavy. The station area and immediate surrounding trackwork have been upgraded recently. It is also possible to see many of the locos on the small depot which lies on the eastern side of the station.
