Trains on two gauges at Zell am See

Austria - 2012

Zell am See lies on the main east-west rail route through Austria between Salzburg and Worgl. Although not particularly busy, most traffic remains loco-hauled with only a few workings covered by electric multiple units. Adding interest to the railway scene is the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn which runs from the main line 52.7 km to Krimml. The gauge is 760 mm which approximates to 2 feet 6 inches. The narrow gauge sees steam specials and trains worked by heritage diesels in the summer months.
