Trains at busy Manchester Piccadilly

Manchester Piccadilly is a very busy station dominated by electric and diesel multiple units. Arriva Wales, Virgin Trains, Northern, Cross Country, East Midlands and TransPennine all feature amongst the traffic so there is a wide variety of liveries to be seen. In addition there are occasional loco-hauled container trains working to an from Trafford Park. At peak hours many trains are strengthened and the multiple tracks on the approach to the station see intensive traffic. Although most of the platforms are dead-ends there are two lines offering through traffic to Manchester Oxford Road.
