Mariazellerbahn narrow gauge

The Mariazellerbahn is a 760mm gauge electrified narrow gauge railway running 85 kilometres from St. Polten to Mariazell. In 2012 the line was opearted by diesel traction as upgrade work meant the electric power was off. During this visit, with modernisation of the track and overhead power supply underway and new EMUs imminent, only the northern 'valley' section of the railway was open using diesel railcars and locos. All the electric traction was at the depot in St Polten. These images reflect this situation.
