Antwerp trams at Centraal Station

Belgium - 2011

The city of Antwerp in northern Belgium currently has 11 tram routes. The system is metre gauge and uses 600 volts d.c. The most modern trams are the Siemens MGT6-1 Hermelijn which have been delivered in two series from 1999 to 2006. Perhaps of greater interest are the PCC cars which were delivered in two series between 1960 and 1975. From my observations close to Centraal station many of the early cars are still in service. Antwerp trams are operated by DeLijn who also run other tramway operations in Belgium. Trams in full advertising livery seem to be encouraged and this does add a splash of colour to the streets,.
