Trains at Cologne Hbf

Germany - 2011

This busy station, as might be expected from the railway serving Germany's fourth largest city, offers plenty of interest to railway enthusiasts with heavy passenger traffic throughout the day. The station is located adjacent to Cologne Cathedral. The arched roof over the platforms is in classic railway style with more contemporary design used for the newer canopies at the eastern end of the station. Also of note is the Hohenzollern Bridge located at the eastern end of the station, which takes six railway tracks and pedestrian walkways across the River Rhine to Cologne Messe/Deutz station. It is the busiest railway bridge in Germany. Traffic through Cologne Hauptbahnhof is restricted to passenger traffic much of which is still loco-hauled despite the gathering pace of substitution by multiple units.
