Trains at Liege Guillemins

Belgium - 2011

Completed in 2009, this modern station is constructed from steel, glass and white concrete with a spectacular arch covering the platforms. These images show the architecture and trains that use this imposing station. The careful attention to the design details mean that everything from waste bins to the supports for the overhead power lines is in keeping with the overall concept. Liege is a busy hub with most trains in the hands of multiple units but there are still loco hauled services including international trains to Luxembourg and Maastricht. Of particular note is that heavy trains heading towards Brussels are banked by a diesel loco up the steep grade that starts almost from the platform end.
