Trams in Alexanderplatz, Berlin

Germany - 2011

There is a large tram system in Berlin with modern articulated trams in operation. During the period when the city was divided, trams in West Berlin were gradually eliminated. In the East of the city, the network was constantly improved and today this difference in attitudes means that the trams operate mostly in what was the former DDR. During my visits to east Germany in the 1970s and 1980s for steam, I regularly stayed in an hotel located in Alexanderplatz. This always meant I was able to see the trams as I arrived and this series of images was taken on a brief visit to one of my old haunts from thirty years ago. I am not an expert on Berlin trams so the captions are not very detailed. perhaps someone might help to fill in the details.
