Garratts from Thomson Junction

Zimbabwe - 1981

Zimbabwe Railways used 15th and 20th class Garratts on the mainline through Thomson Junction from Bulawayo and Victoria Falls. Traffic was mainly coal from Wankie Colliery Traffic was light although railway staff at the loco shed would always help with information to make finding trains easier. If there were no trains on the mainline then a visit to Wankie Colliery generally provided some action to fill in the time. During this visit a number of South African Railways GMAM Garratts were on hire as a stop gap measure while NRZ Garratts received major rebuilds.
