Steam locos from Bethlehem to Ficksburg

This gallery was taken on the northern half of the secondary route between Bethlehem and Bleomfontein with class 25NC 4-8-4's heading of all but a few trains. The section between Ficksburg and Bethlehem was very scenic with the Drakensburg Mountains to the east. Working trains over this section was always a challenge for crews with frequent curves, steep and changing gradients and heavy trains. Occaisionally you could see 15F or 19D 4-8-2s in use on this section of line.
