Caption - Southern Railway (India) XE/1 class 2-8-2 22587 at Erode loco shed in December 1981. Built by Vulcan Foundry (5350/45) it was one of a batch 34 locos of heavy freight locos. With their massive boilers and weighing 120 tons plus 78 tons for the tender, they were the largest non-Garratt locos on Indian Railways and hand fired too. Erode shed was home to a number of the class with 16 allocated to the Southern Railway.
