Caption - Polish Railways (PKP) Ty246 class 2-10-0 Ty246.10 at Bydgoszcz in May 1971. At the end of WW2 Polish Railways were short of powerful freight locos to haul coal for export from Silesia. In 1946 an order was placed for 100 ty246's which were built by ALCO, Lima and Baldwin in the USA. They were the largest and most powerful PKP locos. Electrification meant their original task had been modernised and by 1979 all had been withdrawn by PKP although some remained in industrial service for some years after.
