French Railways 4-8-2 241-A-21
Caption - French Railways (SNCF) 4-8-2 241-A-21 is seen towards the end of its working life in the late 1960s. These massive 4-cylinder compounds weighed 200 tonnes and were designed for the hilly regions in Eastern France. 90 locos were built between 1926 and 1933 with 41 for the East Railway and the remainder for the State Railway. Delivering in excess of 2500 hp, they were used on premier passenger trains. One example, 241-A-65, is preserved in working order.
