SAR 15AR class 4-8-2 no.1807 nears Rosmead
Caption - South African Railways (SAR) Cape gauge 15AR 4-8-2 class no. 1807 with the East London to De Aar passenger at sunrise approaching Rooispruit between Burgersdorp and Rosmead. 119 15A's built by North British, Beyer-Peacock and Maffei between 1914 and 1925. Most were reboilered between 1929 and 1936 being reclassified as 15AR. These useful mixed traffic engines were by the late 1970's, like 1807, used in the Cape Midland section including the tightly-timed Port Elizabeth suburban trains.
