Caption - Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) 2-8-2 22.028 at Leipzig Hauptbahnhof in August 1967. 85 of these locos were rebuilt from class 39.0-2 between 1958 and 1962. Allocated duties operated by class 01 4-6-2's the were not successful and saw early withdrawal. By 1968 50 were withdrawn and their boilers used for upgrading 03 Pacifics. In 1970 the remaining locos were renumbered as class 39 and the last few examples were based at Halberstadt and Saalfeld with final withdrawal in 1971.
