Southern Railways (India) broad gauge XE/1 2-8-2 22560 at Erode
Caption - Indian Railways broad gauge XE/1's were a post war development of the XE class 2-8-2's. Thirty five examples were built in 1945 by Vulcan Foundry. Southern Railway (India) 22560 is seen at Erode in 1978 (allocation of six XE/1's). These massive locos weighed 120 tons plus another 78 tons for the tender. The two firemen must have a tough task feeding coal to keep the large boiler full of steam in the often hot and humid climate.
