Caption - Uruguayan Railways (AFE) standard gauge 2-6-0 no. 88 at Paysandu in January 1989. Built by Beyer Peacock in Manchester (4746/1906) no.88 was one of the few serviceable steam locos in Uruguay at this date. The loco has since been plinthed. At one time there was a system of about 1800 km. with lines radiating from the capital of Montevideo. Today half of the system has closed, and passenger services are limited to immediate area around the capital.
