Caption - British Railways "Deltic" D9000 is seen at Haymarket loco shed in early March 1961 soon after construction. Twenty-two of these 3,300 h.p. Co-Co's were to become the mainstay of express passenger services on the East Coast mainline from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh. Withdrawal began in 1980 with the last withdrawn in 1982. Six are preserved. This image shows D9000 (later 55 022) in the two-tone green livery and was yet to be named "Royal Scots Grey". Today this loco is preserved in the corporate blue livery.
