Caption - Zimbabwe Railways (NRZ) 20th class Garratt 734 heads a heavy freight south from Thomson Junction up to Lukosi in July 1987. 61 of these 4-8-2+2-8-4's were built by Beyer Peacock between 1954 and 1958 and weighed in at 225 tons making them the largest and most powerful steam locos in the Southern Hemisphere. Stoker fired, they were capable of hauling trains up to 1500 tons. 734 was one of the class that were rebuilt between 1980 and 1983 with the class lasting in service until 1994.
