East African Railways metre gauge class 60 Garratt 6012 at Nairobi
Caption - East African Railways (EAR) metre gauge class 60 Garratt no. 6012 at Nairobi depot in December 1971. Twenty-nine of these 4-8-2+2-8-4's were ordered and were delivered in 1953 and 1954. At the time Beyer Peacock were extremely busy so their construction was subcontracted to Franco-Belge. The class survived until 1977 when withdrawal commenced. The East African Railway livery was superb when clean although towards the end of steam it was hardly recognisable under a thick layer of dust and grime.
