Eastern Railway (India) HPS1 class 4-6-0 24240 at Ranaghat (Bengal)
Caption - Eastern Railway (India) HPS1 class 4-6-0 no.24240 (Vulcan Foundry 1946) is being coaled at Ranaghat (Bengal) shed in December 1978. Note the steam crane with the bucket filled by hand. These useful 4-6-0's were working suburban trains into Calcutta at this time and are typical of the British designed locos used by Indian Railways before the introduction of the modern standard classes introduced in the late 1940's.
