Caption - Wankie Colliery, Zimbabwe, # 6 shunts at the coal washing plant in October 1980. This loco is an ex-South African Railways 16DA class 4-6-2 where it carried number 847 and was initially used on express passenger trains. The mine, located in the bush close to the Wankie National Park, could easily be found by looking for a cloud of coal dust rising into the sky. In addition to shunting around the mine, the locos also worked the colliery 'mainline' which led to the Zimbabwe Railways transfer yards at nearby Thomson Junction. From here the coal headed south to Bulawayo hauled by 15th and 20th class Garratts.
