Steam locos at La Carlota Sugar Mill, Negros

Philippines - 1980

La Carlota Sugar Mill on the island of Negros in the Philippines was home to a large three foot gauge system. This visit was the second made in January 1980 and six locos were seen in steam out of a total of ten steam locos on the roster. All the locos, apart from one, were built by Baldwin, USA, and provided a very American character to the system. Not seen on this visit was no.6 a Davenport 0-6-0ST of 1921(?). In addition to the fleet of steam locos there were also some small diesels out in the cane fields. Bagasse was used to fire all the steam locos except for Baldwin 0-6-0T no.104 which was oil-fired.
