Belgrade is the main focus of the Serbian Railways system. In general the network has suffered from low levels of investment with many lines closed or offering no service. This has led to a reduction in passenger traffic with many trains either one or two coaches. However there are signs of improvement with new DMUs and EMUs on order and some ongoing works to improve line speeds taking place.
