Hamburg Harburg is one of the freight hotspots in Europe with a wide variety of railway companies providing traction. The traffic has an international aspect with interworking from other European countries commonplace. Besides the modern electric and diesel locos there are also a number of veterans still in use. Such are the traffic levels that you very rarely have more than a few minutes to wait for the next train. In addition to the freight traffic most passenger trains are also loco-hauled making this station a railway enthusiasts heaven.
