Chinese Railways JF1936 and QJ2851 at Taiyuan North
Caption - Chinese Railways JF class 2-8-2 JF1936 and QJ class 2-10-2 QJ2851 outside the repair shop at Taiyuan North in December 1980. Both locos had been in for overhaul and repainted ready for ongoing mainline service at their home depots. Chinese Railways generally operated a modern policy of servicing steam locos with minor routine repairs, coaling and watering being undertaken at efficiently managed modern stabling facilities. These had no covered tracks and turned around locos very quickly. More major repairs and overhauls were done at repair shops like the one seen in this image.
