Caption - South African Railways (SAR) class 25 4-8-4 condenser 3514 departs with a heavy westbound freight from Perdeberg on the line from Bloemfontein to Kimberley in May 1976. This was one of the first condensers I ever saw and the whirring of the fan and lack of "chuffs" was a unique experience. Later in this trip I saw many more condensers on the line from Kimberley down to De Aar where they were still a common sight. Within a year a two they had but disappeared from service.
